• Leading a team of 5, I am Principal Investigator on this project examining identity formation and inter-minority relations between Asian and Black communities in the UK and US. The project is funded through the British Academy Knowledge Frontiers International Interdisciplinary Research Projects and is in partnership between the University of Nottingham, Rice University and Rutgers University.

This research will identify where interracial convergence and divergence exist in social and political attitudes, memory and popular representations. We will analyse the role of social values, local community memory-making and representations of inter-racial relationships and lived experiences of minoritisation in popular culture in shaping inter-minority relations.

  • For this project, I collected data on the ethnicity, gender, political party and ward of over 20,000 local councillors in the UK.

I also conducted 84 semi-structured interviews with ethnic minority local councillors, candidates and activists.

  • EVENS is the largest and most comprehensive survey to document the lives of ethnic and religious minorities in Britain during the COVID pandemic. I worked on the sample design using population estimates of ethnic and religious minorities in Britain and contributed to questionnaire design including modules on political trust and Black Lives Matter.

  • My PhD was on Ethnic Minority and White British Voting Behaviour in the 2016 EU Referendum. I conducted semi-structured focus groups and interviews and analysed quantitative data from the Understanding Society longitudinal study.

  • Examining the local impact of Brexit on the city of Bristol, for this project I organised meetings, workshops and public events. I also facilitated and analysed conversations with local stakeholders including businesses, trade unions, charities and religious groups.
