Teaching

British Constitution in Crisis

I introduce students to the institutional structure of the British constitution in the context of recent crises. I cover topics including parliamentary sovereignty, referendums, devolution, Britain and Europe, and the legacy of empire.

Race and Politics

I introduce students to theories of race and racialisation, including postcolonial theory, orientalism, and intersectionality. Topics covered include imperialism, colonialism, white supremacy, experiences of racism, and ethnic and racial penalties.

Experiencing National Identity

This module explores how national identities are expressed, experienced, and contested by citizens and political actors in a range of contexts. I teach students how and why we should investigate identity from an everyday, ‘bottom up’ perspective. I equip students to design and evaluate research, collect and analyse qualitative data, and to reflect on ethical questions and the role of the researcher.

Fellowship, Advance HE

I have gained fellowship of Advance HE through demonstrating innovative approaches to teaching and assessment including a flipped classroom model for teaching research methods as well as using student-created podcasts for assessment.
